The game

Whamageddon is a free, community game that runs every year from December 1st to December 26th. The objective is simple: make it through the entire game period without hearing Wham!'s Last Christmas in a public setting. Participation is entirely voluntary. No purchase is ever required.

Eligibility

Whamageddon is open to anyone. You must provide accurate information when creating an account. One account per person.

The rules

  • You are eliminated the moment you hear Last Christmas by Wham!
  • Cover versions and other artists' recordings do not count — it must be the original Wham! recording.
  • Mark yourself as whamd honestly. The honour system is the only system.

Fair play

Deliberately playing Last Christmas to eliminate another participant is unsportsmanlike and against the spirit of the game. We reserve the right to remove accounts that abuse the platform, harass other players, or attempt to manipulate the map or statistics.

Game period and availability

The ability to mark yourself as whamd is only available between December 1st and December 26th inclusive. The website and map are available year-round. We make no guarantee of uptime or availability, particularly during peak periods in December.

Location sharing

Sharing your location is optional and used only to place you on the Battlefield map. By sharing your location you consent to your approximate position being displayed as part of an anonymised cluster. Map positions are deliberately imprecise and do not expose your exact or street-level location. You can update or remove your location at any time from the dashboard. Deleting your account removes all location data immediately.

Public profiles

Your warrior profile (name, profile picture, whamd status, and year-by-year game history) is accessible via a unique URL that you can share. No location, email, or contact information is included on your public profile. If you've opted in to friends visibility (see below), your name, avatar, and status may also appear in the Allies section of a friend's public profile. You can delete your account to remove your public profile entirely.

Friends visibility

Whether you appear in a friend's Allies section is controlled by a consent toggle in your profile settings, off by default. Enabling it means any friend who has added you may display your name, avatar, and current status publicly. You can disable this at any time, and the change applies immediately.

Profile pictures

You may upload your own profile picture, or one may be automatically sourced from your social login provider or from Gravatar. By uploading a photo you confirm you own it or otherwise have the right to use it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights or violate any law. We reserve the right to remove any profile picture that is inappropriate, offensive, or infringing, and to suspend accounts that repeatedly upload such content.

Intellectual property

Last Christmas is the property of its respective rights holders. Whamageddon is an unofficial fan-run game and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wham!, George Michael's estate, or any record label.

Limitation of liability

Whamageddon is provided as-is, for entertainment purposes only. We are not liable for any distress caused by hearing Last Christmas, however regrettable that may be.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
